A Spirit Airlines flight was diverted to Denver on Wednesday after a passenger attempted to open an emergency exit during the flight, numerous sources reported.

A passenger on the flight told NBC Los Angeles that the man emerged from the restroom shirtless and tried opening the exit door. Video showed the man being held down in a seat by multiple passengers, according to NBC Los Angeles. Passengers appeared to have restrained him with zip ties.

The unidentified passenger who tried opening the door was on Flight 185 from Cleveland to Los Angeles, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said, according to NBC. The flight left Cleveland at around 6:15 p.m.

The flight diverted to Denver where it landed without incident, according to the FAA. The FAA described the passenger as “unruly.” (RELATED: Report: Brawl Breaks Out On Spirit Airlines As Woman Who Refused To Wear A Mask Tased By Cops)

Another video showed paramedics wheeling the passenger in a gurney through Denver’s airport, according to NBC Los Angeles. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials appeared to be accompanying the paramedics.

Spirit Airlines ensured travelers that it’s “impossible” to open a door while in flight due to air pressure.

“It is important to note that opening a door inflight is impossible due to air pressure inside the cabin pinning the door against its frame with force stronger than any person could ever overcome,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement, according to NBC Los Angeles.

“Safety is our number one priority at Spirit Airlines. Law enforcement met the aircraft in Denver and took the passenger into custody. We thank the crew members and Guests who assisted for handling this situation quickly prior to arrival.”

No one was hurt in the incident. It was unclear whether the passenger who tried opening the exit door will face any charges, according to Fox 8.
