The attacks happened within a three hour interval where five different U.S. Postal Service carriers were attacked. “It’s rare for these things to happen,” said Micheal Martel, Public Information Officer for the U.S. postal service, “the U.S. Postal Service does 150 million delivery points a day without a hitch.” Several mail carriers suffered minor injuries as a result of the attacks. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the law enforcement agency of the U.S. Postal Service, has issued up to $50,000 in reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators. The suspects are described as two African-American men driving a silver four-door sedan with temporary license plates.

“These postal workers are out there and might be the only ones around during the pandemic,” said Martel, “they’re providing a necessary service to the American people.”

President Donald Trump has recently attacked the U.S. Postal Service for having low shipping and packaging rates. Trump has also said that he will withhold emergency pandemic relief for the U.S. Postal Service until the rates are raised.
